Biography |
Jack Murray is in demand as a versatile musician who plays a wide variety of styles. Jack has played for many Broadway national tours including: Spamalot, the Producers, Chicago, Sweet Charity (starring Molly Ringwald), Thoroughly Modern Millie and Damn Yankees (starring Jerry Lewis) to name a few. In 1999 he was called to do an international tour of Sophisticated Ladies by Duke Ellington. He performed in Spain, Norway, Germany, France, Italy and Bermuda. In addition to playing national and international shows, Jack often lends his talent to local theater groups and can be heard playing with the Carolina Voices. Jack is not only a theater player. He has played with artists such as Aretha Franklin, Wayne Newton, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Rosemary Clooney, and Kenny Rogers. He has also toured with The Four Tops, The Temptations and Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. In 2005 Jack had the honor of playing for President George W. Bush’s Inauguration with the Guy Lombardo Orchestra. Jack is currently the lead alto player for the Charlotte Jazz Orchestra. Other big bands he has played with include: The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, the Cab Calloway Orchestra, the US Airways Jazz Band and The Guy Lombardo Orchestra as mentioned previously. Jack was named “Most Outstanding Saxophone Player” at the Mobile Jazz Festival in 1994. You may have seen Jack on PBS specials performing as a featured soloist with the Andrew Thielen Big Band, “A Swinging Christmas” with Michael Andrew, Davido and the Jive Aces, and recently with Ralna English. You can also hear him on several recordings including his new CD Amalgamation, The Frank Love Orchestra, The Old Friends Quartet, Shane Dunlap, and up-and-coming artist Derek Daisy to name a few. In an effort to continually improve himself, Jack has studied with many great teachers. He has studied with Al Regni, Jerry Coker, Dr. Phil Thompson, Chris Vadala, and Alessandro Fantini. |
